Earlham students are known and love for their dedication to social justice and their sense of empathy for others in the community. Throughout our time working with the college, Metz Culinary Management has enjoyed how engaged the students and faculty are in creating an intentional environment.

This compassion is shown through students’ participation in the Points4Kids Program that Metz at Earlham promotes at the end of every semester. In 2017, Earlham students managed to donate over $6,000 in unused meal plan points.

So, what exactly is the Points4Kids Program? The Points4Kids program is a collaboration between Metz and the Richmond Community Schools to provide its students with nutritious meals, ensuring that kids have access to wholesome meals. Often times due to certain circumstances, these kids may not have filling meals to fuel them for studying. As Metz strongly believes in supporting the community through food, we want to share with community members.

The best thing about this program is its collaboration. Earlham students help us tremendously with this program by donating their Quaker Points – their digitalized money to use in our dining system – to pay for these meals. As mentioned above, every year we see impressive donation amount as a concrete proof of Metz and Earlham’s effort in contributing to the Richmond city.

In the photos, you can see our lovely staff members pushing cartons of orange juice bottles, cereal boxes, and nutrition bars to deliver to the Richmond Community Schools. As the semester is coming to an end, we are excited to see how much we will raise this year for the Points4Kids program!
